Gerhardt Lorist – Manager
Gerhardt has an absolute passion for the bush. After his schooling in Pretoria and some travels abroad, he qualified and worked as a Trails ranger and Field guide in the Kruger National Park. Through the years his passion and love for the natural bird life led him to run his own birding safari company for a few years.
He also got involved in a 3-year university study in mapping the biodiversity of various reserves in South Africa. The research component led him to manage a volunteer ecological research programme in the Welgevonden Game reserve in the Waterberg.
As a family man, the management of a single property appealed to him not only to put into practice all his experience as an ecologist and conservationist but also to be able to raise his two daughters in the bush.
Jarine grew up on a farm in Middelburg in the Mpumalanga province. Her passion has always been to live and work in the bush. After she finished school, she went overseas to take a gap year and see a bit of the world. On her return, she attended a field guide course and started living out her passion. She worked in the Kruger Park as a guide for a private company and there she met the love of her life, Gerhardt Lorist.
She moved to the Waterberg area with her husband in 2009 and continued to work as a guide and lodge manager on the big 5 reserve Welgevonden.
Gerhardt, Jarine and their 2 girls Rune and Narina moved to Zangarna in 2014 and are happily living there ever since.
